It rained heavily during the night as a trough passed through and this morning dawned grey and overcast with a bit of drizzle. The wind had not yet turned into the south however, so we had breakfast then weighed anchor and got under way. There were three other boats at anchor in Chain Bay, a power boat, another yacht and a catamaran, all of which left the bay at around the same time, clearly anticipating the wind change as we were.

As we cleared Reef Point, the wind was starting to pick up from the south. We altered course to the east to clear Batemans Bay and set the main with two reefs in anticipation of stronger winds outside. However, once clear the wind remained a steady force four from the SSE, so I shook out one of the reefs and as we turned towards Jervis Bay, poled the jib out to starboard, running before the fresh breeze wing-on-wing making good a comfortable six knots.

Now we have just passed Ulladulla and expect to be off Jervis Bay around 1530. At that point we will assess conditions and decide whether to seek shelter in the bay or continue on to Wollongong. At the moment conditions look good for pressing on.

All is well.
