The last 24 hours has been very frustrating with very light or no wind. So far we have resisted the urge to resort to the motor but will have to do so soon. It seems we have ventured into an area of desperate calms. We have both tried to make the most of what little wind there has been but you can’t do very much with nothing. Our plan from here is to make for Taltal by tomorrow evening, a mere 30 miles away but it will undoubtedly require some motoring to get there. Once there we will reassess our situation to see what alternatives we have but it is most likely that we will need to push on to Arica regardless.

A small shark paid us a visit as we drifted in the dead calm sea this afternoon, and I baked some bread which has lifted crew morale considerably.

All is well.
