This morning we obtained our zarpe, bought some fresh fruit and vegetables, and Martina confirmed herself as a fully fledged member of Sylph’s crew by losing her credit card in a phone machine. Once we had cancelled her card we returned on board, hoisted the dinghy inboard, then weighed anchor, sailing from Taltal a little after midday with a very light westerly drawing Sylph along at a sedate 2 knots. Since sailing we have managed to maintain steerage way, covering 11 miles in the last seven hours. Tonight we will stay close to the coast in the hope of picking up a land breeze when the light air we are currently enjoying inevitably dies in a few hours from now.

Saw some whales surface astern of us about an hour ago.

All is well.
