We have enjoyed a good run since leaving Tamar River five days ago but the wind has now abandoned us. I tried setting the spinnaker for the first time solo this morning but there was not enough wind to keep it filled. With Backstairs Passage less than ten miles away I have resorted to the motor. I hope to catch the flood tide through the passage which commences in an hours time, and to get out of the swell which, with no wind to stabilise the boat, is causing Sylph to roll and the sails to slat badly.

Once inside Gulf of St Vincent and in smoother waters we will only need the lightest breeze to keep the sails full and Sylph moving. Then I will be able to shut down the engine and hopefully sail the rest of the way.

Eighty miles to Adelaide, ETA tomorrow morning.

All is well.
