The Moken village

I arrive at the crossing point for the Moken Village.  The bridges are gone and the raft looks decidedly dodgy but the ferry captain assures me that if I sit on the port bow I will balance out the missing float, starboard aft. I don't have much choice if I want to get there.

The Mokens are sea gypsies originating from many different Asian countries and hence are stateless.  They are loved by the local Thais but officialdom is now trying to document them. They have nothing and don't seem to care.  The houses in the village are very basic - a mattress on the floor if you are lucky.  I take very few pictures as it is deemed to be impolite.

Westerners living on Phayam have now raised money to build a new bamboo bridge.  At least then the children will be able to go to school again...
