The people of Nepal

Let’s start with the Sisterhood of Survivors. We visited their centre and they taught us how to make momos – little pastry parcels filled with whatever you want and then steamed.  They also make beautiful hand woven fabrics.  But their real job is to work as paralegals.  When they qualify they are placed in a police station and they prepare the legal case against People Traffickers.  Every one of these lovely girls has been rescued from traffickers.  Considering what they have been through they are surprisingly well adjusted.

Then we visit a Tibetan refugee camp which naturally contains a monastery. If any of them return home they will serve between three and ten years in prison for leaving their country illegally.  Women can apply for a Nepalese passport after 15 years but for some reason men cannot.  They are effectively stateless. They make the most beautiful rugs.  It all starts with an old lady spinning wool by hand.

We also visit an agricultural village.  Very primitive; all cooking done over wood.

The other pictures pretty much speak for themselves…
