Fawn & Viani Bays

Fawn is about 20 miles along the coast. For once the channel markers are in place. The reef pass is easy to see; the lagoon pristine. And you can anchor in sand with no coral heads to worry about. 300 boats could moor here. My arrival leaves room for another 299. I go ashore and meet Mrs Pickering who owns most of the land. Despite her name she is Fijian. She makes me tea. Her house is very basic; no window glass, no carpets and everything a shambles. She doesn't care.

A couple of days later I go to Viani Bay where Jack Fisher rules the roost. He is also Fijian. His house is pictured. I would love to photograph the inside but these people are sensitive. I am now less than seven miles from the International Date Line. Some of my passages will cross the Dateline several times in one day as I weave around reefs. If I get my East and West waypoints mixed up you will not see too many more posts on this blog!
