Boring but safe

Lockdown may be boring but here in Malaysia it is very safe.  From where I am sitting there is not a Covid 19 case for 250 kilometers.  But with travel restrictions now eased all that could change.  But our director general of health seems to have a good handle on things and is very cool under pressure.  Last week he said he took an afternoon off and did two operations to relax!  Anyway we are down to single figure daily infections and most of those are Malaysians returning from abroad and they are quarantined at the airport.

Moving the boat into another Malaysian state is complicated and there is no guarantee of a berth at the marina in Penang.  Anchoring in Penang is not really an option.  But I want to go there for a break and my annual medical check up.  So I get on the ferry which is very crowded. I have picked a beautiful boutique hotel in a restored ancient building.  They have decided to stop providing breakfast even thought their restaurant is able to open to the public for lunch and dinner.  So I  move a couple of hundred yards for a quarter of the price.

All the usual Penang stuff, funicular railway, street art, good local food and manage to meet up with some friends. And the doctor even says I can continue drinking beer.  So that is OK.

I go to a smart shopping centre for a technology implant.  I really want an Iphone but I need a dual SIM and with Iphones one SIM has to be an E SIM.  I don’t trust Vodafone with this exercise and so I get a Samsung and save quite a lot of money in the process.

Back on the boat again all is well.  I get my bicycle out as I am clearly going to be here for some time yet.  Our present control order last until 31st August and there is no word of any borders opening up. Discussions are ongoing but have been for some time…
