The expensive deck work is finished and I develop an intermittent charging problem.  Cruising boats are not much fun without electricity.  No fridge and warm beer being one serious issue. While I am on passage and moving there is no problem as I have a water generator.  But at anchor and not moving there is a problem. My wind generator is no use.  Because there is no wind.  I have had some silly advice from technical so called experts in both England and Thailand.  In the end I change the alternator on Christmas morning and all is OK.  Even that is not straightforward as the idiots have supplied me with a unit which has the wrong sized pulley.  And I need an impact drill to swap them over.  Easy though in the cruising community on Christmas morning.  After a pleasant three day cruise along the west coast of Thailand with spectacular scenery combined with fabulous sunsets and sunrises.

We have a fun Christmas lunch, about 35 of us.  The island is a dream, right on the border with Myanmar. Almost no litter, sandy beaches, clean clear water and just narrow tracks and no cars.  Loads of restaurants and resorts, all small and family run.  One bar is amazing, the Hippie Bar.  It is built entirely of driftwood held together with string and is on three levels with about 50 different ‘rooms’.  If you like smoking pot you don’t need to bring your own as the air is dense with smoke.

I don’t know how long I will stay.  Maybe 10 years…
