It is a long time since I wrote something mainly because there has been little or nothing to write about.  I moved back to Phuket which is twice the price of Krabi but more fun (marginally).  Also the work re-caulking my decks has not been good; they are leaking in several places and so I wanted to see what the expensive contractor had to say.  This job cost GBP 7,500.  She claimed to have told me the job would not work – so why did I spend the money along with another GBP 1,000 of ancillary expenses?  She offered to repair it for GBP 9,000! That is her off my Christmas card list.

The vaccine roll out in Thailand has been a bit of a joke with most people getting Sinovac.  I eventually get an appointment for Astra Zeneca and turn up at a sports stadium with nearly 1,000 people.  It is chaos and if I was not infected before arriving there was a good chance I would be before I leave.  The process takes more than four hours.  But I survived, just.  Meanwhile local infections are still at an alarmingly high rate. Jab 2 scheduled for 7^th October.

The owners of Boat Lagoon are not feeling the pinch.  They are upgrading the hotel to 4 star, putting in unnecessary roundabouts, ripping them out and then doing over and over again. Little amuses the very rich!

Most of the schools are closed due to Covid but the impressive local British International School came up with a plan to satisfy the authorities and are now operating again. Staff have taken a 20%  pay cut to assist.

All of the bars are (supposed to be) closed and restaurants are not (supposed to be) selling alcohol.  Every so often the police have a clamp down but mostly on overcrowded places where they can also get a drugs bust.

Rainy season is more than half way through.  I have a couple of contractors lined up to re-do my deck which can only be done in the dry season.  Fibre glass this time, cooler and easier to keep clean.  All donations gratefully received…
