The amazing city of Vienna

Back in Vienna (by train, which arrived a disgraceful four minutes late) I do several tours.  It is a city of magnificent buildings with centuries of the Hapsburg dynasty in evidence everywhere.  Almost everything is in walking distance and there are hundreds of fabulous coffee houses serving top class home baking.

The history is breathtaking. Some of it quirky.  When Hitler announced that Germany had annexed Austria what he actually said was "I am delighted to tell you that my home country is now a part of the Third Reich".  The opera house is an amazing building.  Unfortunately in 1945 the RAF thought it was a railway station and bombed it destroying 80% of the building. But after the war it was rebuilt using German money.
