Margaret Bay, 18/06/13

Anchor up 0615, anchor down 1640

Eventually the wind came up AND the Sun shone for a few hours!

Another ‘Lucas crap anchorage’ but at least here I’m in 3.8 metres (approx of course). 25 metres of chain down so not quite such a struggle in the morning, as indeed this morning was easy enough.

Calypso has a problem with tides at Escape River, there is a sand bar there which has 2.2 metres at LAT. They have a 2 metre draft and what about swell? Their first thought was to go for the 71nm tomorrow in daylight which I hadn’t a hope in hell of doing. Second thought, because they would be pushing it as well, was to go to Bushy Islet (48nm and doubtless another LCA, although to be fair he says it’s not a good one) then to Escape River (23nm). From there it’s 23 (ish) nm to Cape York so there on the 21st although a suggestion was made to take a day off in Escape River.

I think it depends on whether we can get 3G in Escape river but that’s two days away. In the meantime yet another pleasant supper on Calypso. My wine supply is now exhausted so from here on in it’s a single-malt at anchor (one small one).
