Boaty things continue to get done. Had a bit of trouble tracking down a replacement furling line. Eventually I had to go to Doyle Sails, a mere $100 (Barbados) taxi ride away!!!! Everybody is friendly, but this is an expensive Island.
Today we did the Mount Gay Distillery tour, very informative. Smokey refused to sample any of the freebies as he claims to be still suffering from the run ashore on Tuesday night.
Anybody coming to Barbados, Port St Charles is an easy place to clear into, but the marina itself is not welcoming to 'cheap yachts'. If yours is worth £10 million or more they'd be pleased to see you, otherwise you lower the tone of the place.
The Boatyard (in Carlisle Bay) is a bit of a rip-off for yachties. Each person has to pay $20 Barbados to get into the complex, and you get a 'welcoming drink' for the cover price. This means that if you use the dingy dock, each person has to pay the $20. I took on water there. A terrible surge around the pier, the water was about 5 cents Bajan per litre, so better then having to use jerry-cans all the time.
The water maker failed bit has been returned to the makers in Trinidad, so hopefully next week I'll have a working water maker again.
'Mad Mary of Moonshiner' left the boat today, heading back to the UK, cold weather, Boyfriend and further study, The Squid left a couple of days ago, so it's feeling a bit like the scene from'The Lord of the Rings', where the 'fellowship of the ring' dissolves. Still, I wish them both luck in the future, I hope they remember that life is supposed to be fun.
