Took two days to get here due to headwinds!!! It was OK getting up to Cape
Brett, quite a pleasant sail in fact but then became a 'tacking match' as
soon as we entered the BOI and head to head SW towards Russell. You're
ahead of me Virginia, the wind was 20-25kts from the SW.
Spent the night anchored behind Motorua Island, then in the morning, a
beautiful bright day, with a forecast of 20kts (SW) in the morning and
35kts by the afternoon decided to be brave and we sailed the 8nm to
Russell in a series of long (fast) tacks. Had up to about 25kts most of
the time but the sea wasn't too lumpy. Boat and crew got a bit of a
work-out, which came as a shock after so many months of sailing
inactivity.
Seems like a lot of boats are heading back up to the BOI now; we'll be
going round to Opua tomorrow to catch up with a few people. One bit of
good news, there was a 'special' on Mount Gay rum :) We're no longer a
'dry' boat!
