Let's get the bad to indifferent news out of the way first:
No Volvo starter motors on Grenada:
Supplier in the UK is quoting up to 15 days to source and get a motor out
to Grenada.
Same supplier does not have or will not supply technical details of the
starter motor.
Now for the better news:
The starter motor has been removed and can probably be 'mantled'.
The alternator is undamaged.
The source of the leak (a manufacturing defect) has been traced to the
heat exchanger cover and is easily (steady lad, this is a boat we're
talking about) rectified.
NOW:
I need to find a 'starter-motor mantler'. One name that has been passed to
me is a company in the north of the island, at a place called Guave (where
they have a mini food festival every Friday. Only slight snag is that
recently 'they' were doing something (legitimate) with dynamite near the
road. A slight cock-up in the quantity department caused a landslide which
has blocked the road to Guave. The only way to get there is a llooong bus
ride over the hills (and yes, far away). The return trip would take a full
day. I have a lead to another place. No name or phone number but" go down
the maurice Bishop Highway, turn left at the roundabout towards town, take
the second turning left (close to the roundabout) and on the right is an
engineering shack/workshop. They did a really good job on my starter motor
last year.
After I've had lunch a brisk (really?) stroll down the Maurice Bishop
Highway is in order.
