As I write this I'm approximately seven and a half hours away, and twelve months forward, from a very expensive scraping sound. Yup, it's been a year since my 'long blink' and a lot has happened.....or not, depending on your point of view. Against all the odds we got Trouters off the reef and on dry land. I've learned a lot about Fijian culture and work ethics and I've got fitter. Lean and getting mean, because the old sense of humour is wearing thin, as indeed am I after the pension shock.

Right, well progress today. I got a gas bottle refilled and

Had a cup of tea. That was pretty much the high point of the day really.

I was drilling a couple of holes to insert a 'U' bolt as part of the patent hob-securing system when there was a flash and a slight smell of burning from inside my not-so-cheap-but-made-in-China drill and it all went quiet. I borrowed John the GRPs drill and finished the job. Warranty? Wossat then? As I said in the other blog, China won't be taking over the World anytime soon.

No sign of Martin today. I rang Arun the Elektrik. He's coming tomorrow, just like he was coming last week.
Anti-fouling purchasing day tomorrow. The really cheap stuff isn't available, so F$400 instead of F$250 for twenty litres.
The last door in my hull has been painted, well first coat anyway. Tomorrow is hull cleaning day and I definitely will mark the anchor chain.
Had 'speaks' with 'Peter the German'. He'll go up the mast when it stops raining to check the spreaders. It may stop raining this month, the Fiji met office say.

To end on a note, high or not I'm not certain. I've reintroduced dried beans into my diet. Eventually my digestive system will adapt, but right now I've knocked two minutes off my best 'walk to work' time.
Subject to an engine actually appearing this week and Arun rigging up the interior light switches, I'll move back on the boat maybe after this coming weekend.
