Nearly did it again! Negotiated my way into the anchorage OK and motored around looking for a suitable spot. The minimum depth I found was 14 metres which is doable but a bit of a huffing-puff. So, yonder is a sandy patch, I'll make for that. Aha, a reefie bit. Engine in neutral, 3.9 metres under the keel which looked about right and ....stopped. Hmmm. Flat calm so no pounding but 'we ain't going nowhere'. Power off? Nope. In reverse I need some boat speed before I can (just) steer her. Forward was not an option. There were some rally boats in the anchorage so I put out a call on chnl 77. Avanti answered and said he'd come over shortly but he only had a 5hp outboard. The tide was flat until 1000 when it would fall and I'd be on the reef for 12 hours. A passing fisherman puttered over and for US$20 pulled me off and put me on a buoy (bUoy, Andy). I dived and apart from some scrapes on the underside of one rudder skeg and keel no visible damage, bubbles or bits of keel floating away.

No wonder they call me Pete the Reef. Provided my damage assessment is correct I'll be here until tomorrow morning then off to Manggar in East Belitung. About 250nm so about three days at my normal rate of progress. Diving on the boat it's amazing how many barnacles have reappeared in the space of five days. I might have another scrape this afternoon but there was quite a current running when I went down earlier.

Oh yes, this is a very picturesque spot. Lots of fishing boats, fishing rafts and light-coloured reefs.
