We are now back in Oz having survived the 30 hour journey to get here. We eventually arrived at our hotel in Mackay on Wednesday evening about 5pm. Having spent most of the day hanging around Brisbane airport, we were a bit sleepy to say the least! After an hours snooze we went in search of dinner only to find that most of the restaurants in the marina were shut and the only option was back in the hotel. Dinner was a fairly quick affair and then off to bed.
The truly great thing about jet-lag is now much time you get in a day. We were both up by 4am the following morning and raring to go, by 6am we had sorted all our bags and re-packed everything to go back to the boat, were showered and ready to start the day. Unfortunately, not everyone else thinks the day starts so early so we spent a useful hour or two sorting things on Seaduced before meeting with Tim, who is looking after her. All was in order with the boat so we set off to do our most important job of the day - buy a tent!
As you may know, we are spending the next few months travelling round Oz by car, and doing some camping. By the time we had bought the basics, such as tent, table, chairs, BBQ, the car boot was looking alarmingly full. We still had a load more stuff to go in, not to mention our clothes bags which, as we are packing for camping, hotels, cities and a 5* train tour, are stuffed full. Once we had unboxed all our goodies, the car boot was looking in better shape, we also didn't want to turn up with a load of obviously new kit - a bit 'all the gear and no idea'! They would not be far wrong!
So we are now good to go off exploring, the car is packed, we have waved good bye to civilisation, air con, comfortable beds, although I did manage to convince John an air bed was essential - wish us luck, we may well need it!
