We spent a very leisurely day pottering around town this morning. We had planned on an early morning run but neither of us could manage to open our eyes today. Last night we had suffered squeaking ropes and this had kept us awake separately most of the night, until we were both awake and able to go out and sort the lines out. They had been tied the same for a week, so why they started squeaking now is anyones guess!!
We went to the market for vegetables which had been closed yesterday when we arrived and bought what we needed.
Sines is the birthplace of Vasco Da Gama, a famous Portuguese explorer who found the way by sea to India and a few other things as well. There is a statue near the fort but it is very small, we had to hunt for it.

There is a huge fishing industry here as with all these ports and the fish dock was a hive of activity, unloading the boats, sorting the fish etc. We went for lunch near the fish quay , but were told later that you can go to the docks and eat fresh caught and BBQ'ed sardines with the fishermen.

In the afternoon it was back to cleaning again - this time with deck wash and more elbow grease as no sea water had gone near the deck due to extremely calm weather. Two hours later she was pristine again - until we looked up and realised that the mast, and spreaders were also covered in mud and would have to be cleaned - next time I go up the mast I will need to take a bucket and sponge!!
Tomorrow, we have decided on an early start as we plan to go round Cape Vicent and, according to all local knowledge, the weather, the wind in particular, picks up at about 4pm and can get quite high so we plan to leave at 6am.
