After a morning of doing jobs on the boat, including cleaning the engine water filters, and general household stuff, we decided to take a walk into the town which was about 2 miles away. Between the marina and the town there is very little - we had hoped for a nice local restaurant out of the way of the tourists but no luck! When we arrived in town it was as expected and very touristy, but strangely enough, much nicer than Lagos, although basically the same. All the shops sell the same tourist tatt, and all the restaurants sell the same english food, but for some unexplained reason it felt nicer and friendlier - don't get me wrong though, I wouldn't fancy a two week holiday here at all. The main shopping area was pleasant with a tunnel at one end leading to the beach. After a bit of a wander and some shopping we headed to the beach for some much needed refreshment, and then walked home.

It looked as though we could walk around a path on the beach but we only got so far and had to turn back. Fortunately, there was an elevator to take us back up to the top street, rather than having to walk all the way back through town.

Going back to the subtitle of this blog - where have all the budgies gone?, I wanted to comment on the disturbing habits of the men around here, (usually fat, old, ugly or a mixture of all 3 ), of wearing budgie smugglers, (Speedos to the uninitiated!!), whilst walking around the town, and another worrying 'fashion' which sees them rolling their normal swim shorts up to create a nappy look - neither is a good look and surely ought to be against the law?? you will be pleased to note that there are no photos to accompany this section of the blog!!

Our plan for this evening was to try and resolve some issues with the Sat Phone system but this is proving somewhat difficult, and further, much more technical, support is needed. Tonight we are staying in, and tomorrow we go to Vilamoura which os about 7miles away as we are meeting Suzanne there who is coming to join us for a few days sunshine.
