Tonight was the last organised event by the ARC here in St Lucia. It was held a short drive from the marina in a huge conference hall. Most of the boats who have arrived attended and there was the usual free flowing rum punch on arrival until the ceremony started. Fortunately, the ceremony was divided into 2 sections, as it started at about 5.30pm and finished at nearly 10pm! Although we did not win any of the prizes we had a fab final night together before Tony, Pat and Max head home tomorrow - providing the airports are open - although staying here is probably not much better as it is pouring down!
There were the usual obvious prizes for the winner of each class and also some surprising and interesting ones, such as prize for the crew who managed to match their final placing to their ARC number - 2 boats managed this and a prize for the crew (with children) who had taken care of the ARC mascot, Eddie the iguana who has crossed the Atlantic every year with a different boat for the past 10 years! Despite us thinking that our logo was by far the best on the wall in Las Palmas, the judges did not agree and the prize went elsewhere.
Seaduced, despite not winning, did very well in the placings considering we cruised, watched films and had a jolly nice time on our crossing, we came 13th out of 21 in our class and 96th out of 171 in the cruising division - well done and huge thanks to Doug, Lance and Tony for coming with us on this trip and bringing a variety of talents and entertainment to the trip. It has been a fantastic journey for all of us, which has been in the planning stages since we ordered our boat in June 2008. Crossing the Atlantic has been a huge challenge for all of us, and arriving safe and sound in St Lucia is the result of much hard work and dedication from all the crew.
