Evacuated!!

Yesterday morning we were told that we would be evacuated as of 12 noon today. We are now currently staying in a hotel at Newark airport. There weren't really many other options, Jersey City is partly evacuated already and getting evacuated again from a hotel would be too much, and NYC would also be a problem as transport links will be severely limited. The subways will stop at 7pm tonight, and the buses at 9pm in NYC, the schools have closed and the airports are cancelling thousands of flights until Wednesday. That is probably the only good news about staying in this hotel near the airport - the plane noise will be massively reduced!!
We left the boat at 12 noon after tying her to the dock with an unbelievable amount of line - she looks like she is sitting in a spider web! The docks have been frantic with people adding more lines and fenders all weekend. The really strange thing is that the storm hasn't hit yet and the current weather is very mild. We have had no wind all week which has made preparations much easier, the reports on the news are saying that highest gusts are currently 24 knots in our area - that is not a storm, it is a good day for sailing!! There has been so much warning about the storm, and so far in advance that it seems a little surreal to be holed up in a hotel when nothing is happening - yet!! The storm is forecast to start tomorrow evening and last up to 48 hours, we are hoping at this stage to be back on board by Wednesday, but are prepared to stay longer if necessary. Packing to leave was a strange and unpleasant task, we had to pack as if we would never go back, and take everything of monetary and personal value. We are relying on the State Park next to the marina taking much of the water surge that is predicted - the piles around which the jetties are fastened have about 6ft above the park level which should take care of the water surge, we hope! The water is likely to hit at high tide, and to make matters worse, we are at the highest possible tide in the lunar cycle!
We are now philosophical about everything, all we can do is sit here and wait it out, we have done all we can to prepare and protect the boat and will simply have to hope for the best and cross our fingers.
Some photos taken in the State Park yesterday evening before the storm - you can see the cranes are still on the top, (104th) floor, of the new World Trade Centre, the Freedom Tower.

The boat deck is stripped bare - the sprayhood has also now been removed, and the frame lashed.

The boom is lashed - it will probably take about 2 days to 'release' her at the end of all this!
