We have arrived!!! After exactly 3 weeks we saw our first sighting of land this morning - we were only about 50/60 miles from Barbados as we passed but couldn't see it - you can imagine the excitement among the crew! As expected though the last few miles seemed to pass slowly, it is always the same when you are nearly there, not helped by the fact that the wind had dropped to barely anything on Saturday and we were motoring slowly to squeeze the last few drops of diesel out of the tank.

The second most exciting thing was that we were all allowed a(quick) shower - the watermaker had decided about 5 days before we arrived that it wouldn't work when the boat was heeling over for some reason - what use is that???? Water had been rationed and we were showering every other day with a 'sponge bath' in between. We did however have to work for it and put all our saved water into the tank first - about 50 bottles.

We had seen no boats at all for the last 4/5 days so imagine our surprise when we had a fight to the finish line with one of the boats from our jetty in Las Palmas! We decided however to let them cross first as they were slightly ahead and crashing at that stage rather than wait seemed to be going a little too far! Once we had crossed the finish line we headed into the marina to find our berth - we were greeted by all the other boats cheering waving and generally making as much noise as possible, some friends who had beaten us in by a day or 2 also came down to the jetty to take our lines and welcome us. Tony's wife Pat, and son, Max were there with champagne - fantastic, and we were joined later in the evening buy Doug's partner Annemarie, and Lance's wife Heather and 2 daughters, Hayley and Ellie to complete our "Welcome Party".

As expected the party started immediately after we had cleaned the boat and then carried on in the bars round the marina until we were all the worse for wear and totally exhausted!

St Lucia is a beautiful island, as it has a tropical climate it is very green and lush. There are rainforest areas in the middle which sound amazing, also the houses around the bay area are all painted pastel colours and give the place a very welcoming feel. We have lots of exploring to do and are planning rainforest treks, waterfall walks and horse riding expeditions, as well as some relaxing days on the beach working on our sun tans!
