Approaching Faial, The Azores

North Atlantic Ocean 38o 27.0 N 29o 14.0 W

Blog by David  (Time zone: BST -2)

As the sun rose this morning, we still had 110 miles to run to Horta, We again had seen nothing at all overnight but this morning as dawn approached the air was warmer and drier so we hadnt worried about fog again.    The sea had flattened out considerably. We were motorsailing, with about 5 knots of wind on the beam.

There were three AIS images 20 miles ahead of us travelling at roughly 7kts which evidently were other yachts – amd a couple more approaching from either side.

As the day progressed, the wind died and the sea became glassy calm.

Such wild life as we saw was just hanging about witing for something to happen

A Protuguese Man of War looking for a fight                                                  A Fulmar whose afternoon nap had been disturbed

……… as Serndipity ploughed a lonely furrow in the sea

We are now less than 20 miles from the Island of Faial – which is well in sight -  but still 25 from Horta.
