17 February and we are in Fethiye having arrived the day before so we could be there to meet the Humbergracht, scheduled to unload in the Fethiye Bay at about 9.00. She was there in good time and Alcedo was already in the water beside her by the time we were taken out to her by the agent.

Not a great day regarding the weather and we definitely needed a duvet at night, the Med in Feb is not a hot place! There was snow on the tops of the mountains around Fethiye, quite pretty in the winter sunshine, but jerseys and coats a must have.

Importing a boat into Turkey seemed remarkably easy with an agent to sort the paper work, apart from the usual visit to various departments and the exchange of money for papers and no one was the slightest bit interested in what we had on board. Once Alcedo was clearly fit to continue independently and we had got some provisions on board from the excellent Fethiye market, had a very good meal in our favourite restaurant and filled up with fuel, we set off for Fethiye and Albatross marina, the only place that had space for a long term berth. We were lucky with a really sunny day for the nearly 50nm passage to Marmaris and light winds, so with a combination of sailing and motor sailing, achieved the passage in good time. Once Alcedo was safely moored with the help of 2 very efficient Turks, we were welcomed by Sedat, who is part of the marina management and deals with all shipping coming into Marmaris and who sorted out all the Turkish formalities for keeping the boat in Turkey for the next year or so for us. More euros and more paperwork and a quick clean/put to bed for Alcedo and we left for a hotel near the airport ready to fly home on the 24 Feb.

Our plan is to come out again in May when the weather is better and we can take stock of our plans for the next year.
