We left Baie de la Somme Thursday morning in sunshine and showers, which rapidly became torrential rain and blustery winds. It was supposed to be sunny. We motored to baie Anse Majic, a very sheltered bay in beautiful surroundings, with buoys to pick up and birds singing all round the bay.

An afternoon for books, but it did clear enough for the “toys” to come out, i.e. the kayak and the new paddle board, not an easy task as both were buried in the forecastle and needed blowing up.

The majority of the crew also managed a short circuit walk through the woods and up to a cleared area with great views.

The walk was rewarded by a lovely view of the Friar Bird and we didn’t really get wet.

Today has been better weather and the crew has been very busy: just after breakfast bird watching for two while the Ship’s Boy monopolised the paddle board. Then canoeing for the Skipper and the Boy while the Wife made use of the paddle board and then snorkelling for 3 of the crew. The paddle board is a huge success and very popular with all the crew going on to Indonesia. Note the use of wet suits, an indication that the tropical temperatures were not that tropical, so snorkelling was quite brief and Kiwi Bill declined to join in, having no wet suit.
