We said farewell to our Norwegian friends, who we have been sailing with for about 2 weeks, and escaped the Marina at Vilagarcia on a beautiful calm morning and motored and sailed according to wind to Combarro. We reached along at 7 knots accompanied by a Malo 42 with an Irish family ( 3 kids) on board. We cut through the north passage, the Canal de la Fagilda, which was about 3 cables wide but saved sailing right round Isla Ons which would have added another 10 miles to the passage time.
We abandoned our original plan to stay overnight at Sanxenxo ---- it looked good in the pilot book but overdeveloped (it has motorway links to Madrid) and awful from the sea. A new marina meant no sheltered anchorage and we could not face another night in a marina----yet.
This is a beautiful place, a medieval fishing village, and we are anchored off the harbour and yet another new Marina. We are at the top of one end of this Ria so there is very little water under the keel but we are in company with a Moody from Southampton who are making their way South to the Med-----he has retired early at 52!!!
Helen cooked squid last night---- delicious. I am going to have to do a "Cooks au Vin" dinner soon!
