When we had been clearing in the day before, the customs officer had been telling us of a dreadful rainstorm on the neighbouring island of St Vincent just before Christmas. The massive flooding had caused devastation. Some lives were lost and many had lost their houses and all their possessions. Her daughters school were raising money and clothing to send there. The DS and I went through all our clothes, decided what we didn’t need and took a large bag up to the airport as a contribution.

We then left the crowded anchorage and made our way the eight miles to Tobago Cays, a group of small islands just off Union Island surrounded by coral reefs. We anchored in the most unbelievable turquoise water and relaxed for a couple of hours.  We will be able to spend more time here on our way back south, snorkelling over the coral reefs and looking at the large turtles that come ashore on one of the islands, but for now this was a pit stop before heading off for our next destination, the island of Canouan.
