After the 2 1/2 hrs, we came to the Tiki's, Ina was very happy! There were several Tiki's there, in various states of repair. It is really an entire "temple", including sacrificial blocks. Whilst standing there talking to our driver, David, a very helpfull & friendly chap, a breadfruit fell from the top of a 60 ft high tree,  not three feet away from us.

After the Tiki's we were driven down to the beach, now as the entire Island just sticks up out of the water, there is 100 metres depth of water within 20 mtrs of the shoreline, I was not expecting too much of a beach. How wrong I was, we had a small sandy beach to ourselves, and Ina & Amanda found a break in the rocks where the surf came in to give one a massage, and formed a small protected lagoon on the lee side. Simon & I had a go at flying his kite, but he had to stand so far out in the surf that it was very hard to maintain control, so it ended up in the water, and became too wet to fly in the light airs.

Whilst we were playing in the surf two guys turned up on the beach to collect a small amount of driftwood, and start a fire. They, like everyone else we have met were heavily tattooed, and extreemly friendly. After a few more minutes some other chaps turned up, one with a breadfruit that was put on the fire, another with a bunch of jelly nuts. These were cut open with a machette, and passed around, the first ones came to us, along with many smiles. The breadfruit was soon cooked, and served on plates of leaves cut from the other side of the track, again we had first helpings, (it tasted to me like a mix between potatoes & peas). We went off for another swim whilst they had BBQ goat as a main course, and papaya as a desert, all of which we were offered.

All in all, one of our better days, thanks to Ina for suggesting it. We all had a great time, and experienced how life must have been before the invention of money and work!

Leaving Hiva Oa in the morning for the nearest island, who's name escapes me at the moment, and I am too lazy to get up and find out what it is. We have been promised a beach and clear water, ( I am hoping for somewhere to entertain everyone with my kite surfing skills!) More later.
