Having seen at the beginning of the week a day forecasted with Southerly winds - ie. favourable for a change - we set off from Denia at exactly 6.00am for Ibiza. Target was St Antonio being the closest point some 60 miles away.

The first hour in dark/dawn light we motored - then for the next hour we motorsailed. For the next four and a half hours we had a perfect sail in F4/5 just forward of the beam. The boat was going at just about top speed, 7.5 to 8.00 knots in a clear blue sky.

Dispite the 50 miles across, the mountains in Spain are so high you could see them virtually all the way to Ibiza. Equally Ibiza's hills became visible after only 15 miles into the trip. All this helped Alison, this being her first offshore trip.

Well done Alison, an exhilerating first offshore trip.

St Antonio's marina is currently undertaking the finishing touches to some large new pontoons etc. - today it is a bit of a building site but should be very nice soon. The town is all you can imagine of a resort for discerning Brits (must remember to have a beer bottle in my hand when we neext go for a walk.) Oh well a stepping stone for the nice anchorages around the coast.
