A large dollop of water down the forehatch onto the sleeping skipper`s face guaranteed a call to reduce sail. Hatches are usually open to keep the cabin cool but during a particularly strong squall on a night of otherwise glorious sailing, JS put the helm up to spill wind and water was taken over the deck.

With 470 miles to go, and the likely return to light wind in 2-3 days, we need to make the most of the present good breezes especially as fuel reserves are low.

Happy hour the last two nights was accompanied by amateur dramatics amidst "stage lighting" hung from the rigging: JS & JQ did a Nelson/Hardy satirical sketch on political correctness, and JL a splendid reading of Jeremy Lloyd`s "Captain Beaky for P.M." and "The Water Boatmen" playing all parts with dialects ranging from South Shropshire and broad Yorkshire to Elfish. Each night was a "sell out" and applause could be heard in Barbados; thank goodness the grand children weren`t watching.
