Moonrises, Sunsets, and Dobie Dust

Saturday

The milestone of week 2 finds us in another day of debilitatingly hot
weather, fickle wind, and under engine power. The windex flicks around like
a dilettante debutante with the wind astern. Clouds are analysed for weather
patterns and nubladian resemblances.

A large pod of dolphins seen briefly in the morning swimming out in front.
Sarah sprints on deck to catch a glimpse, a true twitcher of the deep.

Acclimatising somewhat to the heat, the crew crack on with jobs; the saloon
floorboards taken up and the bilge getting some attention from the cap'n.
There will be many checks in the journey ahead and every detail needs to be
considered. Various other polishing and touch-ups in progress by Ian and
Manuela. Any desperate hopes of remaining jelly baby fragments in the bilge
have now been eradicated.

Another batch of scones served up by Ian, this time using a less
controversial, less potent milk base. We learn some merchant navy speak, and
will hereafter insufferably refer to completed tasks as 'job oxo', tea
breaks as 'smoko' and laundry detergent as 'dobie dust'.

We have hit the full moon, and after yesterday morning's lunar eclipse,
night watches were treated to a simultaneously gargantuan cheddar moonrise
and sunset in the evening, followed a few hours later by a full moon-setting
and violently incandescent sunrise. The author apologises for this vain
attempt to describe the sublime.
