Wind SW 5
SOG 6.5kts

Good progress with wind generally 14 to 18kts.
We were delayed leaving the marina by a power cut but managed to get away at 1215 local. The Ocean Race boats are in Capetown at the moment and we passed through them as they gave rides to local children around the bay. These are the IMOCA class foiling monohull that I sailed virtually in the Vendee Globe. They have enormous gravity defying rigs and a massive curved foil on each side of the hull and will comfortably cruise at 25kts.
We started out under full sail but with the south westerly swell it is quite rolly so we have two reefs in the main and will put a third in tonight. The genoa has a couple of reefs also but despite this we maintain a good speed.
It is going to take a while to settle into a regular sleep and watch routine. We both have chesty coughs and feel tired post Covid but sleep is not yet coming easily.
There isn’t a cloud in the sky so it is very warm and sunny. The nights are brightly starlit and the breaking waves glow with phosphorescence. Lovely sailing conditions.
