Hi all,

We arrived safely into Ponta Delgado on San Miguel island mid-afternoon Monday. We had to motor the last 3 days as we traversed the west side of the high pressure system, but, on waking up to stiff easterlies on Tuesday morning, we realized we had dodged a bullet.

It was a bit of a toss-up as to whether we would make landfall on San Miguel or Faial, hone of the main sailing town in the Azores, Horta. We finally decided on Punto DelGado, San Miguel, mainly because it was 200 miles further east than Faial. Turns out that San Miguel is a really interesting island, and the capital of the Azores.

After walking around Punto DelGado on Tuesday we flew across to Horta this morning. We will spend a couple of nights here and have just had lunch at Peters Cafe Sport restaurant and bar across from the marina. A lovely town.

We just learned that there will be no viable weather window for starting the crossing to Gibraltar through the following week. So it looks like we will be in the Azores for a while to come. There are worse places to be stuck in so we will make the most of it.

That's it for now. Next update once we get a better read on the weather.

Neil, Kev and Scott.
