Distance run    in 24hrs 191nm over the ground, 165nm through the water

Trip total         841nm over the ground, 726nm through the water

To go to          Uligan, Maldives 771nm – 1,605nm total route distance

We continue steadily west and are now over half way through the passage and just about 300nm before we tackle the traffic congestion that must occur south of Sri Lanka where many of the ships that we are encountering pick up their armed guards for the journey across the Arabian Sea.  One interesting avoidance occurred just before dawn when two ships travelling in the opposite direction at a similar speed, 14-15 knots and in parallel approached with us as the meat in the sandwich.  They both altered course and it was as if Moses had parted the Red Sea.

This certainly is the busiest continuous amount of traffic that we have encountered on any passage, but there again we do not usually sail down a shipping lane.

Other than that we continue under main, mizzen, staysail and boomed out genoa and with an increasing sea have at times been surfing for wave after wave.  This is reflected in the daily run and once again we have benefited from over 1 knot current.
