well,  what a great place!

We arrived here after a grand sail from St Lucia to Fort de France bay in Martinique.  We had a good night at anchor preceded by the lousiest meal I have had at a French restaurant in many years.  (For those visiting anse Mitan, its the one on the right as you get off the ferry dock).  Needless to say we departed early next morning to motor sail all the way to Roseau as the trade winds had stopped completely!

Worse news was to follow as we sought and found a mooring in the bay to find that the swells that we normally associate with inter island passages were sweeping round into the bay.  A very uncomfortable night followed but at least we had a much calmer night than the monohulls whose masts were tic-tokking fast and to enormous angles to the consternationof thse aboard!

We went and checked in and out with customs here this morning - how very nice, civilised and helpful - and a bargain at $20 EC!  This was followed by a wander round town. What a nice place! Even although there was a cruise ship in.  we will definately come back when the sea is more clement.

We took a 1/2 day tour with Pancho as recommended.  We were a little concerned when he turned up in his white Toyota with a 1/2 finished bottle of Mackeson in the drinks holder - and we didn't get any!  However, we had a great tour, Botanical Gardens, crushed buses, swimming in gorges and natural hot springs as well as sampling and seeing some of the plant life (no - not the pointy leaf stuff - although there is plenty of good 'organic' around mon! We stopped and chatted to his mates and even had a fruit punch - amazingly strong fruit here!

We've just had tea and are considering an 8 hour passage to Les Saintes overnight as we are fed up rolling around here!
